At the Dove-Shell Federation, we recognise the importance of science in everyday life. In our science lessons, we provide knowledge based outcomes, give a range of cross-curricular skills and aim to enrich their enthusiasm within the science curriculum. We aim to give the children as many opportunities to develop a range of scientific skills. Across all year groups within the delivery of our units of science, we ensure that there is progression for the children when giving opportunities to:
- Develop scientific knowledge and understanding of concepts.
- Ask and answer scientific questions about the world around them through different types of scientific enquires.
- Develop and use a range of skills including observing, planning and carrying out investigations.
- Use a range of methods to communicate and present their scientific findings.
- Develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of scientific learning and discovery.
Science is taught for 1 ½ hours per week at Key Stage 1 and 2hours per week at Key Stage 2. For one half term we have a specific focus on developing the skills of working scientifically in addition to linking this throughout the rest of taught science curriculum.
Our Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculum builds upon the knowledge and skills that children develop in the EYFS through the area of understanding the world.
