Welcome to Early Years at the Dove-Shell Federation, this is where the excitement begins!
We provide children with a rich variety of play activities in a stimulating and challenging environment. The Early Years curriculum is divided into 7 areas of learning.
These are:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematical Development
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive Art and Design
These learning opportunities allow our children to investigate, satisfy their curiosity, explore the world inside and outside the classroom, extend their sense of wonder, experience success and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
Each half term we have a different topic which allows children to gain new experiences and develop new interests. Alongside this we incorporate the children’s current passions and interests to ensure learning is fun and engaging. Whilst in Early Years we primarily focus on developing children’s personal, social and emotional development alongside their communication and language skills. These skills are crucial in setting up children for learning in all other aspects of the curriculum. To do this a mixture of both adult lead and child-initiated learning takes place. Teaching is delivered through carefully planned whole class lessons and small group activities.
