Nursery and Reception are taught using medium term planning derived from Numicon ‘Firm Foundations.’
Key Stages One and Two
Maths is taught for one hour per day using the Maths-No Problem! scheme. Lessons are concerned with fulfilling and extending the requirements of the National Curriculum for Mathematics.
The principles of Maths-No Problem! are:
Coherence – This is a curriculum that builds concepts progressively, ensuring deep understanding. This coherence benefits teachers by providing a clear roadmap for instruction and pupils by fostering connections between mathematical ideas, leading to solid and transferable knowledge.
Structure – A clear framework for both teachers and pupils is provided, enabling consistent progress and reducing cognitive load on teaching staff. The scheme allows pupils to focus on mastering new concepts while building upon previously learned skills. As a result, pupils develop a strong foundation in mathematics, leading to increased confidence and improved problem-solving abilities.
Mathematical fluency – Empowers pupils to approach complex problems with confidence and creativity. By developing strong foundational skills and conceptual understanding, pupils are better equipped to apply their knowledge in various contexts — fostering a deeper appreciation for mathematics and its real-world applications.
Support – Teachers can begin teaching mastery immediately with all the lessons they need to teach the entire curriculum at the highest level. The scheme eliminates the time-consuming task of finding and writing lessons, allowing teachers to focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional mathematics education.
Learning tools – The scheme includes a comprehensive suite of learning tools includes textbooks, workbooks, and digital resources. These materials cater to a diverse range of needs, align with the curriculum, and seamlessly integrate into lessons to maximize student engagement and understanding.
